Jerome Bible Baptist Church was organized as an independent Baptist church, on August 30, 1946. By the time the charter was closed, there were 88 charter members. Brother N.S. Anderson was the first pastor. The name “Bible Baptist Church” was adopted on September 8, 1946.
Services were held in the Civic Club rooms in the local library building for the first year and a half. Construction of a Quonset building on Second Avenue East began in July, 1947. The first service in that building was December 14, 1947. It was a metal shell with a concrete floor, but the church had its own building.
The church began to grow. In the following years, projects included adding a furnace room, restrooms, a baptistery, ten classrooms, a nursery, and a pastor’s office. Church membership reached 175. Brother Everett Winfrey started KART radio ministry in 1967.
The property adjacent to the Quonset building was purchased in 1970. A basement was completed in 1971, and an additional basement was added in 1972. It included classrooms, a nursery, a kitchen, and a fellowship hall.
The church continued to expand. The Grange Hall on the other side of the Quonset building was purchased in 1978, and was used as a youth building for several years. A 450 seat auditorium over the basement was completed in 1981. Attendance for the building dedication service was 234, and a record of 316 attended the burning of the mortgage in 1984.
In recent years, the church added a parking lot, acquired property beyond the parking lot, and began several new ministries. A weekly Patch the Pirate children’s program is taught on Wednesday during the PM service teaching children to sing and important Bible lessons. God has repeatedly blessed, and under His faithful guidance, Jerome Bible Baptist Church will continue to strive to reach people for Christ.
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18
